BDO TOOLS  -  Align Fields Add Fields Make Fields

Using the Force ANSI control

When the Force ANSI control is selected:

  • any open input file is closed
  • the Align Fields controls are reset
  • the Remove BOM control is automatically disabled

A file that contains only ANSI (Windows-1252) characters, and does not have a Byte Order Mark, has to be read character-by-character from start to finish to accurately determine that the file does indeed contain only ANSI (Windows-1252) characters. The processing time required for this operation will be extensive for a large file and this processing time can be reduced to zero by selecting the Force ANSI control.
  Caution
If the Force ANSI control is selected, and the input file contains one or more characters whose Unicode code point is greater than U+00FF (i.e. the character is outwith the ANSI character set), those characters may not display properly and the output file may contain corrupt data.

Using the Remove BOM control

When the Remove BOM control is selected:
  • the output file will be written without a Byte Order Mark
When the Remove BOM control is not selected:
  • the output file will contain a BOM if the input file contains a BOM
  • the output file will not contain a BOM if the input file does not contain a BOM
