Use the Organise Fields tool to:
- add / delete
- modify
- re-order
fields in text files.
Procedure
- Choose input and output files. See Force ANSI / Remove BOM.
- Optionally,
- Change the input file's field delimiter in the Input Delimiter box.
When blank, a comma is used as the default field delimiter.
- Select the Merge Adjacent Delimiters control.
- Change the input file's field quotation marks using the
Quoted Fields use drop-down control.
- Select the Match Fields control.
- Select the Enclosed control.
When the Enclosed control is selected, the field list of each line of the input file must be contained within the chosen
Enclosed By characters.
- Enter the number of fields you wish to write to the output file in the Fields Required box.
- Click the Show button.
- Click the Move button or select individual checkboxes under the Move button to indicate the fields to be written to the new file.
- Optionally,
- Re-arrange the field layout by entering values in the New Position boxes.
Valid values are integers in the range 1 -> 25 inclusive.
- Click the centrally placed -->
button to see the result of your choices.
- Optionally,
- For any empty output fields, enter values, indicate the type of field (quoted or number) and indicate if the value is to be
incremented using the Contents, Quoted and Increment controls.
- Change the output file's field delimiter in the Output Delimiter box.
When blank, a comma is used as the default field delimiter.
- Change the output file's field quotation marks using the
Quote Fields with drop-down control.
- Enter a table name in the Table Name box.
- Select the Align Output control.
- Select an output format - DOS or UNIX.
By default, the output file will be DOS formatted.
- Click Write to create the output file.
